Christian Merli landing in Sardinia

Sunday 13 September will see the 59th Alghero – Scala Piccada in Sardinia, the 4th round of the Italian hill climb championship CIVM. It is a difficult season, the pandemic having reduced the number of scheduled CIVM events from 12 to 7.
Christian Merli with his Osella FA 30 Zytek LRM is currently leading the championship standings with 55 points. Simone Faggioli (Norma M20 FC) is only 5 points behind, followed by Diego Degasperi (30 points). The event in Sardinia comprises two race heats of apparently 5.100 km each, instead of the 6.285 km mentioned in the programme.

Christian’s comments on the race in Sardinia
“We must aim for maximum championship points in a season of only 7 races. I have a pale recollection of this event; I won here 10 years ago with the Picchio. At Popoli we had a hard time because the car was sliding inexplicably, and I hope we’ll find the right setup in practice. It’s a great race in a beautiful location. The track is technical to begin with, then there are straights and a few hairpin bends. A series of very fast double bends and then a fast mixed section with hairpin bends leading to the finish line. The weather forecast is good, and so we’ll do our best as always.”
