The winner of the 23. Nagrada Malacke, part of the Croatian hill climb championship, is Simone Faggioli in his Norma M20 FC. Christian Merli in his Osella FA 30 Zytek LRM takes second place. Neither had raced on this track before. It is 4.100 km long and situated a few kilometres from Split. At the first race of the season in Skradin at end-June the Team Blue City Motorsport leader had taken the overall win ahead of Simone Faggioli.
A mishap in the first race heat
«First of all my compliments to Simone, who clocked a fantastic time. Unfortunately in the first race heat this morning my car was skidding a lot more than yesterday. At the first hairpin it went into a slide and then in a long and fast left-hand bend we damaged the rim of the rear-right wheel, the bodywork and the extractor. In the break between the two race heats we fixed it all, thanks to Giuliano. But the final part of the second run was really tough. We are happy with the second place, but we have more work to do on the car».
In the first practice run on Saturday, Merli finishes first in 2’00”068, with Simone Faggioli 0”923 behind. Christian’s second run is cut short; he has to stop at the red flag because Bormolini, who started before him, has suffered a spin and blocked the road. Faggioli tops the timesheet after an unobstructed run in 1’57”637. In the third run, after 7pm, Faggioli crosses the finish line after 1’56”400, Merli is only 0”230 behind.
In the first race heat Simone Faggioli claims top spot in 1’53”161. Merli’s Osella goes into a slide at the first hairpin bend, and in a long and fast left-hand bend halfway through the track the rear-right wheel and the bodywork touch the border of the road. Merli finishes second, 2”816 behind Faggioli. Before the second race run Christian works feverishly to fix his Osella, but Faggioli is in great form and dominates the second run, too, with the Scuderia Vimotorsport driver 0”949 behind.
The podium on accumulated times
1st Faggioli (Norma M20 FC), 2nd Merli (Osella FA 30 Zytek LRM) 3”765 behind, 3rd Degasperi (Osella FA 30) 13”736 behind.
