Race in Slovakia cancelled for safety reasons

The 37th edition of the Dobšinský kopec, the 5th round of the European Hill Climb Championship, has been cancelled for safety reasons. The drivers, having made the long trip, got to take the first practice run only. The decision by the FIA, the international automobile association, was made after one of the first few drivers in the second practice run lost control of his car in a bend, left the road and hit a track marshal.

The FIA decision
“Fortunately neither the driver nor the marshal is in critical condition”, says Christian Merli. “The FIA observers immediately reinspected the track, and the race was cancelled for safety reasons.”

Christian Merli travelling to Poland
“We are now going to Limanowa in Poland for the 5th round of the season. The European championship now consists of seven rounds.”

The only practice run
On Saturday, in the first official practice session and under a cloudy sky, Merli finished 3”023 ahead of Simone Faggioli (Norma M20 FC).
