Christian Merli at the 5th European championship round in Poland

After the Dobšinský kopec race in Slovakia was cancelled for safety reasons, Christian Merli has travelled to Limanowa southeast of Krakow in Poland. On Sunday the driver from Trentino will race his Osella FA 30 Zytek LRM at the 12th edition of the Hill Climb Limanowa, the fifth of the remaining seven rounds of the FIA European Hill Climb Championship. So far he has won in Spain and in the Czech Republic, and he is leading the overall championship classification with 100 points, followed by Faggioli (75), Petit (66) and Degasperi (48). He holds the track record at the Polish hill, having seen the clocks stop on 1’51”398 in 2018.

Merli explains the race programme at Limanowa
“Saturday starts with a free practice run to try out the car and the track. Then two official practice sessions and another free practice run. One more optional practice session on Sunday morning, followed by the race. Two heats on the 5.493 km track where we took the victory in 2016, 2017 and 2018. It starts with a slippery right-hand bend. In fact, the surface is slippery for almost half of the track. The rest of the surface has been redone and the bumps have been eliminated. The track is fast with a couple of hairpins and a series of double bends to be taken in high gears.”
