Christian, European Champion 2021
“I am very, very happy. I have won the overall European championship for the third time, and have also claimed victory in the single-seaters group. I went for a conservative engine setup because I was aiming for the E2-SS podium. My car wasn’t perfect, but I’m really happy, and I thank my family, my sponsors, my mechanics Giuliano and Claudio, my friends and my fans. Now I’m going to Croatia, where just one point will be enough.”
“You have to consider the jokers. If Faggioli races and wins his group, we could end the season in a tie.”
In the first practice run on the 5.010 km track of the 27th Ilirska Bistrica hill climb in northern Slovenia, Christian Merli tops the timesheet in 2’10”228, with Faggioli 0”651 behind. In the second practice session, positions are reversed, with Faggioli finishing ahead of Christian.
Faggioli in his Norma M20 FC wins the first race run, with Merli and his Osella FA 30 Zytek LRM 1”413 behind. In the second race run Faggioli again finishes ahead of Merli.
Only one round remains to be raced this season, the 40th Buzetski Dani in Croatia on 19 September.
