Record for Merli in Tenerife, then abandon

Christian Merli was forced to abandon at the 50th Subida a Tamaimo in Western Tenerife, where he had been invited to race his Osella FA 30 Judd. The event in the Canary Islands took place all in one day. In the official practice run on Saturday morning the Scuderia Vimotorsport driver immediately topped the timesheet in 2’32”015. In the first of the three race runs he finished in 2’26”384, establishing a new track record. In the second race run the 2025 European champion crashed and was forced to abandon.

Christian Merli disappointed

“I was happy with my record time in the first race run, and before the second run we put on new tyres. In a fast right-hander, the car understeered and the front pushed wide. The front right-hand wheel got stuck in the gutter on the side of the road and we crashed against the wall. It’s really a shame. Everything was going well, the crowd was incredible and the weather was fantastic.”

The Subida a Tamaimo hill climb

An event all in one day, with one practice run and three race runs on a very technical track of 5.200 km. It had begun with the spectacular parade in front of a huge crowd in Puerto Santiago on Friday evening.
